Amazon gives shoppers 15% off all products in a subscribe and save order if you subscribe to five or more items in a single monthly delivery. This means it’s often cheaper to add one or two inexpensive filler items to meet the five item minimum and receive 15% off your total order rather than the standard 5%.

For example, if you have three subscribe and save items totaling $20 in your subscription, you’ll receive 5% off each item. You’re missing out on an additional 10% savings. If you add two filler items to your order for $1 or less, you’ll get your original three items PLUS two more for only $18.70 because you’ve unlocked the 15% off discount. That means Amazon is paying you $1.30 to add those two items to your cart.
